Dubai’s Damac: Trump brand to boost sales
Hussain Sajwani says it was ‘a wise decision’ to stick with Trump brand deal despite US candidate’s controversial remarks
A branding association between Damac Properties and US President-elect Donald Trump’s company is expected to see a sales boost for the Dubai developer, its chairman has said.
Damac, which is listed on the Dubai Financial Market, came under pressure last year over its partnership with the Trump Organisation following the Republican candidate’s controversial remarks about Muslims.
The New York-based Trump Organisation is collaborating with Damac Properties on the Trump International Golf Course in Dubai and 104 exclusive Trump Estates villas and mansions in the Akoya master development.
Damac stuck with the agreements despite Trump’s negative remarks about Muslims visiting the United States.

Damac chairman Hussain Sajwani now looks back on the decision to stick with the Trump deal with pride.
“We saw the pressure. We we’re in the middle of the pressure,” Sajwani told CNNMoney.
“We had a number of meetings with board and management and we took a decision that we are going to stick to our legal agreements… It was a wise decision.
“All our business partners respect us for that. We stick to our commitments, regardless of the political, geographical or any other issues.”
Sajwani also believes that the association with the now President-elect Trump will be good for business.
“He had a strong brand — and no question in the last 12 months, his brand became stronger and more global. I think it will have a positive impact on sales,” he told CNNMoney. “He’s in no way discriminative. He doesn’t discriminate against sex, religion or anything else.”
