Aldar HQ in Abu Dhabi gets giant Star Wars facade
100m installation celebrates Abu Dhabi’s role in The Force Awakens
Aldar Properties and twofour54 have partnered to create a giant Star Wars-themed installation at the Abu Dhabi developer’s HQ.
The 100m high installation is in place on the coin-shaped Aldar headquarters, a well-known landmark in the UAE capital, the twofour54 media zone said on its website.
It is to celebrate the Middle East premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Abu Dhabi on December 16. Parts of the movie were shot in the UAE capital.
The installation features the Starkiller Base from the latest installment of the blockbuster franchise. Fans eager to know more about the film will have to wait until it is released in UAE cinemas tomorrow. Plot details for the film have been a closely guarded secret, with very few details released in advance.
Filming took place in Abu Dhabi in May 2014, with more than 650 crew working across two locations. twofour54 and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission assisted with the Star Wars: The Force Awakens shoot, as Abu Dhabi stood in for Jakku, a mysterious frontier planet in a remote section of the Outer Rim Territories.
The film, directed by JJ Abrams, is the seventh instalment in the long-running franchise. It is anticipated to be one of the most successful films of all time, having already set new records for advance ticket-sales in the US. The film is scheduled for general release in the UAE on December 17.
