Saudi Arabia: 50,000 workers hurt in 9 months

Up to 50,000 people sustained work-related injuries in Saudi Arabia during the first nine months of the year, with the construction industry accounting for the most incidents, according to an Arab News report.

Foreign workers accounted for 95% of the total injuries, the newspaper reported, quoting information from the General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI).

Construction was the industry with the most work injuries, followed by trade activity (9,690) and manufacturing (7,420), the newspaper said.

Most of the injuries happened in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia (with 20,877 cases), followed by the Eastern region (12,768 cases), and Riyadh region (11,986 injuries). Most of those injured were aged between 25 and 29, the report found.

The number of work-related injuries during the past 10 years stands at 803,000 cases, according to the GOSI data.
