Qatar’s Ashghal awards sewage tunnel contracts worth $613m
Work awarded to joint venture between Bouygues Travaux Publics and UrbaCon Trading & Contracting
The Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has awarded two contracts for the design and construction of sewage tunnels in Doha to Bouygues Travaux Publics and UrbaCon Trading & Contracting, reports The Peninsula.
The two contracts are jointly worth $613 million, of which Bouygues Travaux Publics’ contract amounts to around $317 million, it was reported.
The joint-venture partners will construct two sewage tunnels in Doha, of which the north section will be 16 kilometers long while the south section will be 14 kilometers long and 4.5 meters wide.
“For this ambitious project, we have developed an innovative technical solution that will enable us to address the customer’s concerns effectively and fully meet their expectations,” says Jean-Philippe Trin, Deputy CEO with responsibility for Bouygues Travaux Publics, DTP and VSL.
The contracts are part of the Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS) project in south Doha for sewage collection and treatment services.
The project began this summer and is due for completion by 2019.
