Dubai’s RTA starts work on Seih Assalam road improvement
Roads and Transport Authority to widen road near Bab Al Shams Hotel and Dubai International Endurance City
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started work on a $18.8 million (AED69 million) road-improvement project on the Seih Assalam Road near the Bab Al Shams Hotel.
The project falls in a sector stretching 12km from Bab Al Shams Hotel/Dubai International Endurance City to the roundabout of the rest area of the cycling track running along Al Qudra Road. The government body is currently working on the first phase of widening the Seih Assalam Road to include two lanes in either direction. Phase two of the project is expected to begin shortly, and starts from the roundabout, extending 20km up to the Dubai-Al Ain Road, state news agency WAM reported.
The work also includes making three more roundabouts at junctions, street lighting works, and a storm-water drainage network as well as protecting and shifting existing utility lines, said Mattar Al Tayer, RTA chairman. Metal rails will be erected in the median to fend off casual U-turns, ground markings will be repainted and existing trees will be protected, he added.
“Upon completion, the project will create a key traffic corridor starting from the Dubai International Endurance City up to the roundabout of the rest area of the cycling track, and from there to Dubai-Al Ain Road, or Al Qudra Road,” he said.
