The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) in Kuwait has appointed WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff as design lead for the upgrade of the Kabd-Sulaibiya Highway.

The engineering firm is set to develop designs, prepare tender documents, undertake tender evaluation, and conduct construction supervision in the later stages of the road project.

“We are delighted at the opportunity to be involved in yet another highway upgrade project for MPW. Our appointment is a testimony to our commitment to the Kuwait market and our track record of successfully delivering several high profile projects in Kuwait,” said Basheer Mohammed, head of transportation and infrastructure and lead director for Kuwait at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.

The design phase is set to take place over two years, with construction due to commence this summer and expected to finish in two years.

“The main technical challenges are expected to be around the addressing the presence of major utilities, particularly the high-tension transmission towers present in the corridors,” said Mohammed.

“Our strategy will involve proactive engagement with all concerned agencies and working closely with the client to obtain all necessary approvals in time.”

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has experience with similar works for MPW. Completed projects include work on the Kuwait First Ring Road Upgrade Project, where the firm provided design and construction-supervision services.
