At 40km, the US $260 million project will be the longest fixed causeway in the word, linking Bahrain and Qatar.

Although the project approved for construction in 2005, it has since faced a number of delays. Last year plans were changed to incorporate the GCC-wide rail network. Manama and Doha estimate 2015 by completion.

Work stopped between March 14 and 18, according to the works ministry. “The contractors and others associated with the project have been working to ensure there are no delays and that the project is delivered on time,” according to a spokesperson.

Atkins also announced last week that its Bahrain offices have now reopened.
