Dubai’s Majid Al Futtaim appoints new CEO for property arm

Majid Al Futtaim has appointed Bertrand Julien-Laferriere as CEO for its property arm, the Dubai-headquartered retail giant said.

As head of Majid Al Futtaim Properties Julien-Laferriere will be responsible for the group’s $10 billion property portfolio along with new projects in the pipeline. The portfolio consists of 17 shopping malls, including Mall of the Emirates and the City Centre network, alongside 11 hotels and three mixed-use communities in the MENA region.

“Bertrand has extensive experience in international development and in managing real estate firms over the past 30 years,” said Alain Bejjani, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim-Holding. “His appointment will help strengthen Majid Al Futtaim’s regional leadership position and I know he will play an instrumental role to support the future of the company and our next phase of growth.”

The new CEO was previously managing director of design practice Ricardo Bofill and has hospitality experience as well, with worldwide responsibilities for Accor Hotels and Club Méditerranée. He has held executive positions in real estate firms in chief development officer and member of the management board of Unibail-Rodamco, a real estate investment trust in Europe specialising in shopping malls.
