Engineering students are to gain hands on, onsite experience due a cooperation programme between Arabian Construction Company (ACC) and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

The students will conduct up to ten site visits per year, with repeat visits the same sites to check on the progress of construction.

The aim of the visits is to “equip students with vital experience and demonstrate the dynamics of site management; from construction to completion”.

“The initiative represents our educational philosophy that endorses learning by doing,” said Dr. Fred Moavenzadeh, President of Masdar Institute of Science and Technology.

“Our cooperation with ACC reflects MI’s interest in partnering with the industry’s leading firms to provide our students with practical experiences that will optimally position them to become industry leaders.”

The first visit (pictured), to Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Towers project, included meetings with the project team and a guided tour of the site.

Students received a presentation on the challenges encountered during the project, and also had  the opportunity to interview the project directors.

“We are enthusiastic about educating students on the key aspects of construction projects as we uphold our corporate social responsibility towards moulding the minds of students that will soon be joining our ranks,” said ACC chairman Ghassan Merehbi.

“Our partnership with Masdar Institute will provide students an invaluable opportunity to apply real-world application to theory,” Merehbi added.
