Global technical and management support provider AECOM, has announced two major contract wins in the region.

Global technical and management support provider AECOM, has announced two major contract wins in the region.

The first announcement, made on May 2, was for a US $171m, three year contract with the government of Saudi Arabia. The project is part of plans to improve infrastructure in Jeddah, specifically providing “urgent and permanent solutions” to the city’s flood threat.

In a press release, AECOM president and CEO John M. Dionisio said the company is “very excited”, to be part of the infrastructure improvement plan.

The contract includes work to implement dams and other flood control barriers, construct drainage canals and storm water reservoirs; resolve vulnerable flood points; research environmental plans for the Jeddah governorate; improve infrastructure to solve local sewerage problems; and establish a disaster-management centre for Makkah Province.

Completion is scheduled for 2013.

The second announcement made on May 11 confirmed AECOM’s Technology Corporation division, has been selected by Etihad Rail to work with Parsons International, providing project management for the UAE’s national rail network.

In stage one AECOM will take responsibility for all project implementation and a defect liability period upon completion.

For stages two and three, AECOM will provide system setup, preliminary engineering and contract formation; award all EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) or equivalent contracts; prepare tender documentation; and administer, manage and supervise other third party contracts.
