Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is working to attract more UAE nationals into project management and raise awareness about the field, an official told Big Project ME.

“Within [the] RTA we started a training program for building national talent in project management,” said Laila Faridoon, director of the RTA Chairman’s Office.

While there are courses being offered in project management by universities in the country, there is still a need for more Emiratis trained in the field, Faridoon said. This is a challenge for the government body to overcome, she noted.

“We need to show the role of project management in the corporate life,” she said.

Speaking at a recent project management forum organized by the RTA, Faridoon highlighted the need for a high-performing project management office (PMO) in organizations.

A good PMO can provide key decision-making support to top management in an organization, she said.

The support of senior management and stakeholders, however, is crucial for the success of a PMO, Faridoon added.
