Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) has awarded a $51.4 million contract for infrastructure development as part of the phase-seven expansion of Sohar Industrial Estate.
PEIE, a government body formed to develop industry in Oman, has awarded the contract to Hasan Juma Backer Trading and Contracting Co (HJB), the Muscat Daily reported.
Work is expected to be completed in 18 months, according to a company statement.
The estate’s phase-seven expansion project includes construction of roads, sewers, a sewage treatment plant, water supply and irrigation networks, as well as substations, landscaping and gardening.
The Sohar Industrial Estate, established in November 1992, covers an area of 21.7 million sq. m and is located midway between Muscat and Dubai. According to previous reports, 16 local and foreign companies submitted bids for the phase-seven construction work on the project.
