The Saudi labour ministry plans to issue special labour cards to disabled people, in response to allegations that major construction firms are falsely claiming government benefits, it was reported.
Some construction companies have been accused of declaring able-bodied workers disabled in order to receive special benefits, it was reported.
“Monitors from the ministry have recently identified the employment fraud in major companies operating in the construction sector,” said Mervat Tashkandi, adviser to the Labour Minister, quoted in Arab News.
The labour cards will be issued in collaboration with other ministries through the Tawafok program, Arab News reported.
The program establishes regulations supporting employment of people with disabilities, and licenses companies employing disabled people.
