Qatar-based Barwa Real Estate Group will build a $412 million Motor City in Doha, consisting of used car showrooms and other facilities, it was reported.
The project will be constructed in at the Rawdat Rashid suburb along the Salwa Road in Doha, Gulf Times reported.
“Barwa has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning to lease out about 1.15 million sq. m of land to develop and run the project for 30 years,” said acting Group CEO Ahmad Abdulla al-Abdulla, quoted in Gulf Times.
“Many of the showrooms are exhibiting cars outside their shops, which is not the right practice. Motor City will solve problems like these and provide new opportunities for investors,” he added.
The new motor city will provide a race track, sports facilities, maintenance centres, warehouses, and car rentals in addition to showrooms. The city will also have offices for various government departments, technical testing, banks, and motor insurance companies.
The project will take four years to complete, with the first stage ready by 2015, it was reported.
