DSE awarded $47mn contract for district cooling plant in Abu Dhabi
Cooling plant with net production capacity of 12,500 TR to be built by DSE
Drake and Scull Engineering (DSE), a subsidiary of Drake and Scull International (DSI), has been awarded a $47 million contract to build a district cooling plant for a housing complex in Abu Dhabi, the company has announced.
Under the contract, DSE will design and build the plant with five chillers of 2,500 TR capacity for the Abu Dhabi complex, which has 1,357 residential units.
Work on the district cooling plant has already begun, with expected completion in the fourth quarter of 2015, the firm said.
“DSI pioneered the concept of District Cooling in the UAE by building a plant for the Jumeirah Beach Residences in Dubai. We are delighted to note that the technology is being increasingly adopted in most of the region’s mega-projects, said Ahmad Al Naser, Managing Director of DSE.
“District cooling plants have proven their effectiveness and capabilities in providing efficient cooling with lower energy consumption for cost effectiveness. Winning this contract is a prestigious achievement that reflects our advanced capability in delivering large-scale projects,” he added.
The plant will have a net production capacity of 12,500 TR when complete, and DSE will undertake all related civil, mechanical, and electrical work.
