Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid inaugurates District One

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,  has inaugurated District One of the $8.1bn worth Mohammed bin Rashid City.

In the presence of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of the Emirates Group, the ruler unveiled the memorial plaque of the mixed-use development adjacent to Meydan City, four kilometres from Burj Khalifa in Downtown Dubai. The project spans over 54 million sqft of freehold land, and District One accounts for 4 million sqft of the total size.

Saeed Humaid Al Tayer, chairman and CEO of the Meydan Group, owner and developer of the project briefed Sheikh Mohammed about the City scheduled for completion between 2018 and 2019. The ruler also viewed the mega-model of the development.

Al Tayer added the City will feature a 600-hectares-large green space, comprising of a parkland, waterways, a water park and a lagoon body besides retail zones and leisure attractions. 1,500 premium villas are expected to be delivered in four phases in the run-up to the Expo 2020, thus creating one of the lowest-density residential environments in any major international city.

The ruler also toured the 300-villa community development, as per a report by news agency WAM.
