Abu Dhabi City Municipality is expected to release tenders for the construction of an entertainment facility in the emirate.
Private sector investors will be the target market for these tenders, inviting them to finance, develop and operate the events and family entertainment development under a lease agreement.
The events venue at the facility is expected to span over 200,000 sqm of the 80 acres large Khalifa Park, and is expected to be open to public between October 2014 and March 2015. The construction of a circus at the venue has also been planned, besides other theme park attractions, such as retail pavilions, food and beverage outlets, adventure rides and so on, said a report by WAM.
An event similar to Dubai’s ‘Global Village’ was earlier reported from Abu Dhabi – called ‘Six Continents’, the Municipality had been actively involved in the exhibition, featuring diverse countries and cultures through their retail and restaurant stalls.
The Municipality is hoping to attract 1.5-2 million people over the six-month time period when the recently-announced venue will be active. The project is being viewed as a boost to tourism in the emirate and country. More details about the tendering process are expected soon.
