Local arm of HLG to construct 206-room hotel in Oman’s first Integrated Tourism Complex

Construction work of a 5-star hotel project, worth $78 million, has commenced on Saraya Bandar Jissah, Oman’s recently-launched Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC).
Leighton Middle East Contracting LLC, the local Oman subsidiary of Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) will be working as contractors on the project, undertaking all civil works, MEP and finishing operations for the development. The scope of their contract also includes infrastructure preparation and landscaping.
“This is our first contract with Saraya Bandar Jissah and we are proud to be selected as the main contractor to deliver what will be a flagship hotel in the region,” said José Antonio López-Monís, CEO and managing director of HLG.
Jumeirah Group will operate the hotel, which is expected to comprise of 206 rooms, a ballroom, spa and sports activities and specialty restaurants. The hotel is part of the development’s first construction phase and is due for completion in 2017.
The first phase also includes recreational facilities and residential neighbourhoods, besides a boutique hotel.
Saraya Bandar Jissah is expected to boost Oman’s economy due to increased tourism and investment opportunities.
In March 2014, Marianne Helme, residential manager at Cluttons said the demand for properties is rapidly increasing in Oman, and the rate of construction in the country needs to pace up to match this demand.
“They should start building more quickly,” Helme said. “Many people are coming from Dubai and buying in Muscat.”
