Doha’s Mall of Qatar is set to open in the last quarter of 2015, a representative of the contractor working on the project has said.
Speaking at Cityscape Qatar, Shem Krey, deputy managing director of UrbaCon Trading and Contracting, said that the mall will be the largest in the country and that over 70% of its leasing would be finalised by October 2014.
“We have had an amazingly enthusiastic response from major retailers in the region and internationally who have responded positively to our plans to create the first super regional shopping mall destination in Qatar,” he said.
“Mall of Qatar will be introducing several elements into our project that have not been seen in the Middle East before, from the innovative format of our anchor hypermarket to our daily Q-Live entertainment facility and Family Entertainment Centre that will be debuting formats for the first time that will delight young and old,” Krey added.
Built 20 minutes away from the centre of the city, and in the heart of a new development area that will see 10,000 new villas built, the $1.09 billion mall will have 400 retail shops and will be a destination location for tourists and families living in Qatar.
