Cavotec takes flight

Global engineering group and airport systems integrator, Cavotec, has won an order to supply advanced ground support equipment for Dubai International Airport’s new Emirates Airlines A380 terminal.

A multi-million dirham contract has been signed with leading contractor ALEC, to supply, supervise, install and commission 58 Cavotec pre-conditioned air (PCAir) and 400Hz power pop-up pit systems at Dubai International Airport’s new Concourse 3.

The unit’s delivery is due in Q3 this year, with commissioning planned for 2012.

“This exciting project illustrates Cavotec’s growing role as a trusted partner and systems integrator in the Middle East airports market and the airports sector as a whole. We look forward to continuing our close cooperation with our partners on this project in the months ahead,” said Ottonel Popesco, Cavotec CEO.

This year, Cavotec is showcasing the company’s latest innovations in ground support equipment solutions for airports at the Dubai Airport Show 2011. Eighteen of Concourse 3’s 20 stands will be built for use with the superjumbo, making it the world’s largest A380 terminal.

“Our partnership with Dubai International Airport, Emirates Airlines and ALEC serves as an excellent reference as we continue to grow in the region and elsewhere,” notes Juergen Strommer, Managing Director and Regional Manager Middle East & India.

The dedicated Emirates terminal – Terminal 3 – is the centrepiece of Dubai International Airport’s current development programme. At over 1,500,000 m2 (370 acres), the terminal building is the world’s largest and has an annual capacity of 43 million passengers.

Concourse 3 is scheduled to open in 2012.
