A committee reevaluating the 400 properties the Saudi government needs to expropriate for the Haramain Railway Project recently announced a 50% increase in the value of 222 of those properties.
An Arab News report stated this re-evaluation came in the wake of numerous lawsuits filed by citizens claiming the compensation was unfair.
Yusuf Al-Ahmadi, a member of the Property Assessment Committee in Makkah, said the Court of Grievances approved the revaluations. The government had first valued the properties over two years ago. The Administrative Appeal court had last September ordered the Ministry of Transport to reassess the value of Haramain project’s expropriated property.
The committee consists of representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Transport, Justice, Municipal and Rural Affairs, Makkah governorate and the private sector.
