Big 5 bigger than ever

Region’s largest construction focused exhibition grows by 10% from previous year’s figures, with 60,000 industry professionals expected over four days

The 2013 edition of The Big 5 opened on November 25th, with the inauguration of the exhibition by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.
Comprising of The Big 5, Middle East Concrete and PMV Live 2013, the event is the largest construction focused exhibition the Middle East. Held at the Dubai International Conference and Exhibition Centre, this year’s event has seen a significant increase from 2012.
According to figures released by dmg: events, the organisers of the show, the 2013 edition of The Big 5 has grown by 10%, with more than 2,500 exhibitors from 65 countries. An estimated 60,000 construction professionals are expected to visit the show over the course of the four days.
These professionals from the construction industry will gather together to showcase and source new, innovative and sustainable products, see the latest trends, get an update on regulations impacting design and build, and identify new markets and business opportunities.
“We’re honoured that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan has given his support to The Big 5 this year. The event continues to grow with each edition and is still considered the region’s most important event for the building and construction industry,” said Andy White, group event director for The Big 5 2013.
“This year The Big 5 is once again giving architects, interior designers, contractors, developers and all other construction professionals, access to the full spectrum of products. Our educational programme has also expanded this year giving our visitors access to hundreds of free seminars, workshops and regulatory updates,” he added.
Furthermore, as part of the event, international and regional experts will be addressing industry issues such as sustainability and low energy emitting materials, project management in construction, building interior trends, façade design, fire safety and managing ageing structural asset portfolios at more than 100 seminars taking place during the show.
Dubai Municipality will also be presenting its updates to the Green Building codes, which are due to go live from January 2014.
