Basra governorate has approved the construction of a 25-storey hotel and a shopping mall as a part of the city’s reconstruction efforts, chairman of the city’s investment authority, Ali Gasib recently announced.
“We have approved these projects and would soon grant licenses for the investors,” said Gasib. “We are also considering permits for other projects in the governorate.”
He further informed the luxury hotel would be located near the Shatt Al Arab river in south Iraq, and the shopping facility would be around Basra Sports City, as per a Zawya report.
This is the second large-scale project announcement to be made in Iraq, following reports last month that said Emaar Properties’ $3bn-worth ‘Erbil Downtown’ development in Kurdistan.
