Qatar World Cup 2022 will not be held in June or July, a FIFA official was quoted saying.
Jerome Valcke, FIFA’s representative in-charge of finding alternative dates for the event said, “it will not be in June or July. Frankly I think it’ll be played between November 15 and January 15 at the latest.
“If you play between November 15 and the end of the year that’s when the weather is at its most favourable,” Valcke added.
Said while on-air with radio station France Info, Valcke’s statement is yet to be officially ratified by FIFA’s executive committee, as per a report by The Telegraph.
“I was totally surprised this morning when I heard what Jerome has said,” said Britain’s FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce.
“As I understand it all the stakeholders will have discussions and report back to the executive committee of FIFA and no final decision will be made until December 2014 or March 2015,” stated Boyce, who was claimed to have suggested the idea might be Valcke’s “personal opinion.”
“There is an expectation but there has been no decision,” he added.
