Saudi Arabia’s Transport Minister, Jabara Al-Seraisry, has awarded 68 new road projects to contractors in the Kingdom worth a total of $1.5 billion (SAR: 5.6bn), Arab News has reported.

The new projects were approved by the current fiscal budget, and tenders had been invited from national companies soon after the declaration of the budget in order to implement the projects this year, said Al-Seraisry.

Regionally,12 projects worth $245m were awarded in Riyadh, including the construction of an intersection between Khorais Road and Sheikh Jaber Al-Sabah Road at a cost of $137m, which was awarded to Binladin Group.

The Makkah region received seven projects valued at $40m, including the second phase of the Jeddah-Makkah Expressway and completion of the Ring Road in Taif.

Projects in the Madinah region include the second phase of the Madinah-Al-Ula-Tabuk Expressway.

The total value of road projects awarded this year by Al-Seraisry is now $2.15bn.
