Daimler secures massive Brazil order
2,884 tipper trucks ordered by Ministry of Agrarian Development
Daimler Trucks has secured another massive government order in Brazil, with the sale of 2,884 dump trucks. Local subsidiary, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, convinced the Brazilian Ministry of Agrarian Development in a call for tenders with the Mercedes-Benz Atron, built specifically for the market.
A total of 2,884 tipper trucks have been ordered and will be delivered to several communities in rural regions of Brazil by the end of the year, part of an initiative of the Brazilian government, aimed at supporting agricultural family businesses.
Brazil is a major market for Mercedes-Benz Trucks, which has a fabrication plant which recently produced its two millionth Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle.
“With sales of around 27,000 trucks until August of this year, Brazil is the world’s strongest sales market for Mercedes-Benz trucks,” said Stefan Buchner, Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Europe and Latin America. “Brazil will continue to play an important role for our global growth also in the future.”
Other recent orders included includes 2,100 Mercedes-Benz bus chassis to be delivered to four public transport operators in Brasília’s. In October 2012, Mercedes-Benz do Brasil had received a government order for over 2,100 Mercedes-Benz trucks, and more than 1,700 Atego trucks are in operation by the Brazilian Ministry of Defense.
