MAN Truck and Bus has come out on top of a German report on truck reliability, which found that 82% of all MAN one year old trucks on the road in Germany had no defects at all, the highest of any truck brand.

The report, published by veteran testing company TÜV, found that the rate of no defects on one year old trucks had increased to 82%, from 78% in 2012, while 95% of the one-year-old MAN trucks passed the mandatory inspection without relevant faults.

The TÜV Report attributed the high pass rate to MAN’s proven technology, saying that “engines, axles, and chassis are solid and well-engineered”.

MAN was also the top performer across all age categories, with 65% of trucks passing the general inspection with no defects, giving MAN a lead of around 3.5% on all other brands. Among five-year-old trucks, 82% of MAN trucks passed the general inspection.

Maintenance was also a factor, and in the heavy-duty truck category the MAN truck showed signs of being well maintained – “a clear sign that it pays for truck operators to have vehicles in their fleet that are in use every day thanks to professional maintenance rather than ones that have to go to the workshop unscheduled because maintenance has been neglected,” said MAN. “The outcome in the TÜV Report shows that servicing and maintenance contracts are worth it.”
