Workers at a  Zahid Tractor plant in Riyadh are among 100 people reported to have been killed or injured after a fuel truck collided and exploded when it hit an overpass in the city.

“Happened this morning a large explosion in a building Zahid, 22 people have died,” a Saudi contact of CMME confirmed.

Local officials said 22 people were killed and 111 injured after a fuel truck crashed into a concrete flyover and exploded in Riyadh. The truck exploded instantly with the blast wrecking the nearby Zahid Tractor building. The police said that its initial investigation suggested the truck driver had been “driving recklessly”.

The newspaper quoted Kushnoo Akhtara, a 55-year-old Pakistani worker for Zahid Tractor who said: “I was inside the building when the blast came. Then boom, the building collapsed. Furniture, chairs and cabinets blasted into the room I was in. My brother is still inside under the rubble. There are lots of people in there.”
