Dubai Municipality to host 3D Concrete Printing Workshop at 2022 Digital Construction Summit
The Digital Construction Summit is officially endorsed by Dubai Municipality and The Private Office of His Highness Sheikh Saeed Bin Ahmed Al Maktoum
The Dubai Municipality will be hosting an exclusive workshop focused on 3D concrete printing at Big Project Middle East’s forthcoming Digital Construction Summit. The construction technology focused event is scheduled to take place on 14 September 2022 at the Anantara Downtown Dubai (previously known as the Oberoi Dubai) in Business Bay.
The workshop will feature a keynote titled ‘The Strategic Implementation of 3D Concrete Printing’, which will be presented by Aisha AlMulla, Head of Research & Building Section at Dubai Municipality.
It will also feature a case study from Kareem Farah, ECC Director, who will showcase how the firm delivered the largest 3D printed project in the world in partnership with Dubai Municipality. Farah will share details and insights into how the Guinness World Record recognised project was delivered, and how the technology used will shape the future of the construction sector in Dubai, as the emirate aims to become the globe’s leading hub for 3D printing technology.
In June 2022, Dubai Municipality launched several technical activities around 3D printing technology.
Rounding out the workshop will be a panel discussion featuring some of the leading 3D concrete printing experts in the regional construction industry. Led by Prakash Senghani, CEO of Navatech Group, the panel will feature Jesus Sancho, Director General – Middle East of ACCIONA; Edouard Baaklini, CEO of TAMVINCI 3D Construct; Dr Mustafa Batikha, Associate Director of Research – School of Energy, Geosciences, Infrastructure and Society at Heriot-Watt University Dubai; Benoit Meulewaeter, Co-Founder of BESIX3D; and Marwan Abdulnoor Aljanaahi, Senior Structural Engineer at Dubai Municipality.
Held under the banner ‘3D Concrete Printing: The Opportunities in Construction’, the panel will discuss the challenges and opportunities that come with embracing this technology, and the potential it has for transforming the way buildings and structures are built and designed in the future.
Over the course of the afternoon, the workshop will not only cover the impact and possibilities of Dubai’s 3D Printing Strategy but will also educate and inform attendees about how they can best position themselves to take advantage of the technology. Dubai Municipality representatives will also be on-hand throughout the workshop to network and connect with attendees about the topic.
The Digital Construction Summit was first announced in June 2022 and is an evolution of Big Project Middle East’s long running ME BIM Summit.
The summit will begin at 9:00AM on 14 September, with registration opening an hour earlier. Running until 5:00PM, the one-day, live event will feature a wide range of topics, focusing on the digital transformation of the construction sector. Registration is complementary for construction industry professionals.
The summit will also focus on other key regional topics including: What does the Metaverse mean for the Construction Sector; How the Digital Twin can solve the Challenges facing the Water Utilities Industry; What Digitalisation means for Asset Management; and Why the Built Environment must Increase Digitalisation. Developed to embrace and discuss the many changes that have occurred in the construction sector over the last few years, the summit will feature panel discussions and presentations from leading industry figures, and will be a showcase for the on-going technological revolution in the industry. The summit also boast an exhibition space that will feature some of the companies redefining the boundaries of construction.
In November 2021, the Guinness World Record recognised DEWA for setting up the world’s first 3D-printing laboratory.
“While there has been a considerable uptake in the adoption of technology and digitalisation of construction workflows and processes, there is still a long way to go before it becomes ubiquitous,” said Gavin Davids, Head of Editorial and Content at Big Project Middle East.
“Currently, the major adopters are the larger organisations – the MNC consultants, the large-scale contractors, and international developers, but it has yet to filter down to the rest of the industry. The challenge is that many small- to medium-sized firms and companies are still concerned with the upfront costs and are wary of the initial lack of ROI. These attitudes need to be changed as the future is digital and there is no going back to the traditional way of doing things,” he added.
