Dubai tops ‘getaway break’ rankings according to Holidu
Emirate out-ranks Florence, Marrakech and Seville as the world’s best quick break destination
Dubai has secured the No.1 ranking as a whistle-stop weekend hop or layover that offers the same variety and fun as a longer getaway, but allows travellers to enjoy its compact scale over a shorter period of time.
According to the latest findings by vacation rental search engine Holidu, Dubai took the top spot overall, followed by Marrakech in second place. As for the rest of the top five, Florence came in third, Seville fourth and Adelaide fifth.
Describing Dubai, the report says, “The city is not short of things to do either, with Tripadvisor showing over 4,200 tours available – putting the city in fifth place overall for this metric.” Notwithstanding, Cairo remains the city with the most tours available to visitors, with 8,357 trips on offer.

Meanwhile, if guaranteed sun is your choice, Abu Dhabi has the least rainfall, with only an average of 42mm of rain per year – at the opposite end of the world rankings from the likes of Vancouver and Glasgow.
According to Holidu, recent studies highlight that people are taking more short trips than ever, with an obvious benefit being that this type of travel makes it possible to visit more destinations and take more trips in a year.
The report is prepared on metrics gathered from key yardsticks such as population density per sq/km, size of the city in sq/km (double weighted), price of a taxi per km, average delays at the main airport, drive time to/from the airport, number of available tours on Tripadvisor, and average annual rainfall in mm.
Dubai’s ranking results from its unique combination of world-class attractions in a relatively manageable, compact scale, combined with low population density and one of the world’s sunniest, year-round climates – a feature particularly appealing to European travellers, the report noted.
In August 2022, Dubai said it had achieved world-leading hotel occupancy rates in H1 2022, while later in the month, CBRE said that it had advised Aldar Properties on a $221mn RAK hospitality deal.
