Losberger De Boer announces CSR and sustainability targets
Every division within the group has committed to becoming 100% paperless by 2023 and transition to a 100% single-use, plastic-free business by 2024
Losberger De Boer, a leading global specialist in temporary and semi-permanent buildings, has announced four targets that demonstrate the organisation’s commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring fair trade and working conditions for people worldwide.
Every division within the Losberger De Boer Group has committed to becoming 100% paperless by 2023 and transitioning to a 100% single-use plastic-free business by 2024, a statement said.
From 2025, all additions to the modular construction specialist’s fleet will be fully green. Finally, Losberger De Boer aims to be a completely carbon neutral company by 2030, it added.
Francis Scholten, managing director of rental projects division, said: “The four targets we have committed to, in addition to being ambitious, are binding. This makes them more than just targets. These are Losberger De Boer’s promises to our colleagues, our customers and their businesses, the industry and the world.
“Losberger De Boer has a long history of safe and sustainable operations, but there is still more to do. We want to cement our position as a leader within our industry and are dedicated to continuously improving our performance, sustainably and consciously to ensure we are minimising our impact on the environment.”
In 2010, Losberger De Boer achieved ISO 14001 certification. Since then, the organisation has taken numerous successful steps to reduce its ecological footprint. These have included the development of more sustainable parts and products, the optimisation of transport and investment across the board toward achieving more sustainable operations.
In 2021, Losberger De Boer joined the EcoVadis platform to measure the quality of the organisation’s CSR management system through its policies, actions, and results. EcoVadis is an independent, international platform that evaluates companies based on four areas of their CSR policies: environmental impact, working conditions, fair trade practices and sustainable purchasing.
In September 2021, EcoVadis carried out a baseline measurement of Losberger De Boer’s rental division and awarded the organisation a Silver Medal in recognition of the outstanding scores the temporary and semi-permanent buildings specialist achieved across its environmental, labour and human rights policies. Achievement of the Silver Medal demonstrates Losberger De Boer’s performance is ranked within the top 25 per cent of global companies within the same industry.
The EcoVadis ratings also came with solid advice on how to further improve. Since receiving its first rating, departments throughout the group have begun working on plans to further improve their performance in the field of sustainability. Losberger De Boer will implement the first changes in 2022 and will also be expanding the EcoVadis certification to other divisions of the company.
Also in 2021, Losberger De Boer joined the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, aimed at encouraging companies to align their strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption, as well as to take actions that advance societal goals.
Additionally, the UN Global Compact facilitates platforms that support companies in taking action to improve their sustainability while also inspiring new and leading approaches to driving their business in a more environmentally friendly way. As a member of this group of front runners on sustainable business practices, Losberger De Boer fully supports the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, as well as the climate goals it has set in its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Companies that join the global Compact accept a shared responsibility in achieving a better world and taking better care of the planet and commit themselves to implementing the Ten Principles in their day-to-day business.
Scholten said: “As awareness increases, our customers, both in the GCC and around the world, are demanding more sustainable solutions, and we are committed to taking this journey with them. In 2023, the UAE will host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), and many countries within the region are working toward sustainability development goals as part of their vision for the coming decades. We are excited to be working alongside them with the shared goal of achieving a greener, more inclusive future.”
In the first quarter of 2022, Losberger De Boer will launch its first CSR report for the rental division. This report will provide transparency of the organisation’s journey toward achieving the four targets it has set.
