Arada awards two contracts worth $32mn for Masaar megaproject in Sharjah
Contracts are for the development of the infrastructure and landscape of two areas of Masaar
Arada, the UAE-based developer, has awarded two contracts worth $32.1 million at Masaar, the $2.2 billion, richly forested megaproject located in the Suyoh district of Sharjah.
In a statement, the developer said that the contracts are for the development of the infrastructure and landscape for two areas of Masaar – the central precinct around the Masaar Experience Centre, which will host a number of visitor attractions, and the buffer zone that runs around the edge of the community and will feature professional sports facilities set in a woodland area.
Arada Group CEO Ahmed Alkhoshaibi said these contracts will pave the way for opening Masaar to the public with world-class entertainment and sporting facilities, which comes as part of its commitment to delivering an exceptional experience that adds significant value to both existing and future homeowners.
“Masaar is fast becoming one of the most sought-after communities in the region and offers an unparalleled array of high-end facilities to match the nature-inspired tranquillity it provides to its residents,” noted Alkhoshaibi.
The megaproject consists of eight gated districts with a total of 4,000 villas and townhouses. Its signature feature is a ‘green spine’ of 50,000 trees. It was launched in January last year and is located near Tilal City, the Sharjah Mosque and Nasma Residences, Arada’s debut project.
Arada said the $20.4 million contract for infrastructure works at the central precinct and the buffer zone was awarded to Al Marwan General Contracting Company, a local firm that has worked with Arada on previous projects, while the $11.70 million contract for landscape works was clinched by Sharjah-based Al Qalamoon Garden Designers.
The developer said that work on the central precinct of Masaar is scheduled to be completed by April, with the opening of the Masaar Experience Centre scheduled for June.
Once ready, the space will include a children’s adventure playground, a skate park, an outdoor amphitheatre and Zad, the popular food district already present in Arada’s sister community Aljada.
In addition, the landscaped and forested precinct will also feature the hub for the 13-km cycling network in Masaar, which contains rental, retail and repair facilities, it added.
According to Arada, the work on the buffer zone, the border that runs around the outside of the community, is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.
Containing thousands of trees, the buffer zone will feature a two professional looped cycling and jogging tracks, each 6.6 km long, it added.
The awards are the latest in a series of contract wins at Masaar, which include the contracts to build the Masaar Experience Centre and the show villa, as well as the infrastructure design contract, and the design and supervision services contract for the first residential phase of Masaar, Sendian District.
The main construction contract for Sendian District will be awarded in March, Alkhoshaibi said.
