A second earthquake in nine days has hit Italy’s northern industrial heartland with three workers in a precision engineering plant among those killed, with more listed as missing.
The earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit the Emilia Romagna region north of Bologna yesterday killing at least 15 people and devastating factories and warehouses.
The three workers employed by industrial moulding company BBG were killed while inspecting the facility which had already suffered damage after the first earthquake on the 20 May.
After the first earthquake BBG had released a statement saying that it hoped to be operational by the 28 May.
BBG’s facility is located in the town of Mirandola, home to one of Italy’s leading bucket producers Mantovani. The region is also the location of Fiore, a finished products manufacturer who recently exhibited at Project Qatar.
