905,000sqm expo facility will host international events and exhibitions, as well as conferences

Work on the new Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre project is now 54% complete, the Ministry of Works, Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning has announced.

In a statement, the ministry said that the project, which is being constructed on a 309,000sqm area in Sakhir, will feature 10 state-of-the-art exhibition halls that will span a total area of 905,000sqm. Once completed, the venue will host international events and exhibitions, while it features a 4,500sqm main conference centre that has a capacity of 4,000 people.

The statement added that the concrete works are almost done at the expo facility while internal road works, paving and sewage networks are nearing completion, citing a senior official.

“More than 99% of the total concrete works have been done. The final touches are being given to internal road works, paving, sewage networks, rainwater drainage, and electricity,” said Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf after an inspection visit to the project site.

He was accompanied by Assistant Undersecretary for Construction and Maintenance Projects Shaikh Mishal bin Mohammed Al Khalifa and other officials.

The new centre contains exhibition, conference and meeting halls designed to host various events and celebrations with storage spaces, separate exits and entrances for each hall, and equipped with the latest technology.
