Iraq’s 10×10 invites design and build tenders

Boradway Malyan delivers US $10b masterplan

The concept master plan for Iraq’s 10×10 project has been delivered by International architecture, urbanism and design practice Broadway Malyan.

Referred to as a “major mile stone in the realisation of the project”, 10×10 involves a 17km2 extension of Sadr City, Baghdad, and the creation of New Sadr City.

It is central to the reconstruction of the country and design and build tenders are currently being invited. Boradway Malyan is currently assessing submissions, with the practice looking to secure further appointments to support the realisation of the project.

“The completion of the concept masterplan is a major milestone in the creation of a sustainable community with a strong identity for over 500,000 inhabitants and which will ease overcrowding in Sadr City, with successful delivery having depended on long-term and close partnering with the client, and the world-class skills, expertise and experience of our diverse team of international masterplanning experts,” said Broadway Malyan director John Turner. The practice has been working on the project since 2009, when along with DATA Consultants the practices were confirmed as the preferred bidders.

Design work began in April 2010.

The project was named 10×10 because of its predicted $10 billion dollar value and ten-year delivery timeframe.
