Seajacks 4 spends $121m to build ‘Hydra’

UAE-based oil and gas construction and engineering specialist, Lamprell has been awarded a $120.9m deal to supply Seajacks 4 Ltd with one jackup rig.

The contract involves the design, construction, engineering and procurement and delivery of a Seajacks-modified Gusto MSC NG 2500X self-elevating and self-propelled jackup rig.

The ‘Seajacks Hydra’ rig weighsmore than 7,000 tonnes and will be fitted with dynamic positioning, high-speed jacking systems, a 400-ton crane and a propulsion system that is designed to allow it to sail at eight knots.

Lamprellwill build the rig at its Hamriyah facility. The vessel is scheduled for completion in year 2014.

Lamprell had previously built three similar vessels for Seajacks 4, named Kraken, Leviathan and Zaratan, all of which have been operating on oil and gas and wind farm projects in the UK, Holland and, in future, Germany.
