Turner & Townsend announces new head of infrastructure and programme advisory

Appointment comes as the Middle East region continues to see infrastructure investment

Turner & Townsend has appointed Gary Haldane as its head of Infrastructure and Programme Advisory in the Middle East. In his role he will lead the support of the firm’s infrastructure clients in transforming their performance in the delivery of the region’s programmes and projects.

According to a statement, Haldane has over 20 years’ experience working on major capital development programmes and has held senior roles in several of the Middle East’s largest schemes. His roles include the Midfield Development Programme in Abu Dhabi, Terminal 5 at London Heathrow’s Airport and Dublin Airports Capital Investment Programme; supporting clients to setup their programmes for success, the statement explained.

His appointment comes as the Middle East continues to see infrastructure investment in a bid to diversify away from oil, the firm noted.

“While significant investment will be made in new infrastructure, more clients want to maximise the life of their existing assets. Our experience in both ‘building the asset’ and ‘operating the asset’ will bring value to the region’s largest capital development programmes. Both public and private sectors in the Middle East will need to rise to the global challenge to reduce their carbon footprint, as leaders in project, portfolio and programme management we will support our clients on their journey to Net Zero,” says Haldane.

With significant capital investment being made across the Middle East, the construction industry is facing both capability and capacity issues. The need for efficiency throughout the programme lifecycle has never been greater, driving demand for data and digitally driven tools, the statement added.

Commenting on Haldane’s appointment, regional managing director Alan Talabani stated, “Embarking on large scale infrastructure investments requires early intervention to ensure that they are setup for success. With supply chain stretch expected, especially in hot markets like KSA, Gary’s exceptional experience in this field will prove hugely beneficial for our clients.”
