UAE President orders 300km road system

Ras Al Khaimah will get more than 300km of road systems as part of the UAE government’s attempt to facilitate trade and commerce.

The UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the construction of an internal road system connecting different areas of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah to facilitate trade, commerce and tourism activities in the emirate.

The 300km road system will service 51 residential areas and will include all necessary safety requirements to effectively service the drivers and residents of the area.

The government has already selected a consultancy firm to design the road system and oversee its development, with a number of local companies awarded the construction contracts.

To be implemented in three phases, the project will involve building new roads in existing residential areas, as well as, the development of roads where new housing for UAE citizens is currently under construction.

The project will also include re-configuring and paving local and major access roads. The first phase, currently under way, includes the construction of approximately 110km of  internal roads in seven areas of the emirate, with completion expected in May 2013.

The second phase includes the construction of around  118km of  internal roads across 21 areas, while Phase Three entails the construction of 72km and covers 23 areas.

Both phases are slated for completion by August next year.
