Volvo’s new range of FH series trucks will be fitted with its I-See system, a GPS service that allows the truck to adjust travel speed according to the terrain.
Volvo says that combined with other features on the Euro 6 version of truck should create up to 10% fuel savings.
The Euro 6 version uses the double clutch I- Torque transmission. Commonly used in car racing, gear changes can be made in hundreths of a second, eradicating power loss and enabling four per cent savings on fuel.
The system also incorporates a turbo compound unit, and overall provides 2,800 nm torque, compared to 2,300 in the previous FH trucks.
The FH series was launched at a spectacular event which was watched by more than 34000 people across the globe.
“This completely new Volvo FH is, without a doubt, our single greatest achievement,” claimed Claes Nilsson, President Volvo Trucks.
“Tonight, once again we will launch a completely new product – and once again I am convinced that we will set a new industry benchmark,” said Nilsson in Gothenburg. “The new FH is the result of many years’ hard work. Together with several thousands of my Volvo colleagues I am so excited and proud that we can finally show you, and the entire world, the result – a truck for the future.”
