Four consortia qualify for Riyadh metro

Arriyadh commission warns that contract may be awarded to more than consortia due to size

Four international consortia have qualified to build Riyadh’s metro network project.

Saudi Arabia’s High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh has said four international consortia have qualified for the final round of bidding from 38 groups were vying for the contract to build a metro network in Riyadh.

The bidders for the project include Vinci and Alstom of France, Italy’s Ansaldo, Canada’s Bombardier, Germany’s Siemens and Stadler Bussnang of Switzerland.

The commission said that given the project’s huge size, it may award the contract to more than one consortium.

The project involves the construction of six lines of electric rail, totalling 175 km, stretching across Riyadh and serving the airport and the future King Abdullah Financial District.

The consortia must submit their final bids by December, said the commission.
