The UAE’s official news wire, WAM, has reported Dubai metro’s long awaited green line will be officially opened by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on September 9.
The driverless system will become the world’s longest, when the addition 18 stations spanning 23 kilometres, become operational.
The opening of the Green Line marks the completion by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of the biggest vital transport project ever undertaken across the region.
The line was originally intended to open in April 2010, before being pushed back to August 2011. Despite the inauguration now being scheduled for September 2011, the Al Jadaf and Creek stations – which are said to be ready for operation – will be delayed further due to incomplete property projects in the surrounding areas.
