A road construction team in the US state of Oregon has been told they need to monitor sound levels while using their heavy equipment as a zoo elephant enters a critical stage of her pregnancy.
Asian elephant Rose-Tu is expected to give birth to her calf at Oregon Zoo in December and experts are concerned that she could be distressed by the noise.
The Oregon Department of Transport has said that it will work to lessen the impact of the road construction and has pledged to start work at the furthest point away from the zoo to allow Rose-Tu to “acclimatise” to the noise.
