‘First section of The Link lifted into place for One Za’abeel’ – Ithra Dubai

8,500-tonnes, 192m long section lifted 100m in the air over a period of 12 days

Ithra Dubai, the master real estate developer fully owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, has accomplished a new milestone for its One Za’abeel project in Dubai, with the lift of the 192-metre long first section of The Link, the structure connecting the two towers of the mixed-use development.

Situated 100-metres above ground level, the lift was carried out over a period of 12 days, the developer said in a statement. Considered one of the heaviest lifts in the region – weighing in at around 8,500 tonnes – more than 110 special jacks and heavy-duty strand jacks were used for the operation.

Ithra Dubai added that the operation called for a concerted effort by a team of global experts in the fields of construction, engineering and contracting.

Mr. Issam Galadari, Director and CEO of Ithra Dubai said: “Ithra Dubai’s One Za’abeel and its iconic Link are modern marvels of engineering and design, a tribute to Dubai’s Vision and the city’s greatness. The boundless ingenuity exhibited in this project will attract visitors from all over the world by offering the best in business and leisure. One Za’abeel will soon join the list of wonders attributed to Dubai.”

With the first section of The Link now in its final position, the second lift of 900 tons is scheduled for October 2020. This will complete the structure, allowing it to reach its final length of 226 metres.

This length will allow the structure to break an international record for the longest cantilevered building in the world, positioning The Link at the top of the list of engineering marvels around the world, Ithra Dubai said.

Offering 360-degree views of Dubai, The Link will offer tourists and residents a wide range of fine dining, luxury hospitality and entertainment venues. It will also feature an observation deck, gym, spa, pool, banquet hall and a rooftop terrace.

The mixed-use development is scheduled to be completed in late 2021 and will have a total built-up area of 470,700sqm. It will include premium office space, 263 high-end residential units, three floors of retail space, 497 ultra-luxury hotel rooms, and serviced apartments, as well the world’s first One & Only urban resort.

It is also aiming for LEED Gold certification, in line with UAE Vision 2021 and its sustainable development goals.

Once completed, One Za’abeel will be the gateway to the financial district of DIFC, with an overhead link to the Dubai World Trade Centre, the statement concluded.
