DEWA retenders IWP model based Hassyan Sea Water plant project

Interested parties can submit their bids to DEWA by 3 August, 2020

The Hassyan Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Plant project has been retendered by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

The 120 million gallons per day (MIGD) project is the utility firm’s first project based on the Independent Water Producer (IWP) model.

“We are building production plants based on reverse osmosis, which requires less energy than the multi-stage flash distillation based plants, making it a more sustainable choice for water desalination. We aim to produce 100% of desalinated water by a mix of clean energy and waste heat,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA.

DEWA adopted the IWP procurement model for the desalination plant following the success of the Independent Power Producer model at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park projects, Al Tayer explained.

He also stated that the plant will use the most efficient and reliable technologies to support DEWA’s water network to ensure sustainable water supply.
