Arabtec, the UAE contractor, announced on Sunday that it had won a contract worth more than $631mn from Qatar’s Msheireb Properties for the development of Phase II of Msheireb Downtown Doha, the $5.49bn regeneration of the historical commercial centre of Doha.
The contract involves the construction of a built up area of approximately 370,000m2. It comprises of 10 buildings between two and 19 storeys high. In addition, the project will have four to five basement levels.
“The pace of construction at Msheireb Downtown Doha continues to accelerate and the involvement of Arabtec further asserts our commitment to the highest standards of quality, reliability and sustainability,” said Mohammed Al Marri, chief officer for Design and Delivery at Msheireb Properties.
Hasan Ismaik, managing director of Arabtec Holding said that the mixed used Msheireb Downtown Doha Phase II development would have an estimated 99 residential units, 3,102 parking spaces and commercial, retail, hotel, hospitality and community based facilities.
Emirates 24/7, a Dubai based news website, said that one of the hospitality projects would be the McGallery hotel, which would be the first in the GCC region. The project’s design would be inspired by Qatar’s heritage. A purpose built mall covering around 42,000m2 over four levels would also be built. It would account for almost 45% of the total retail floor space within the development.
The consortium Brookfield Multiplex Medgulf was recently appointed as the main building contractor for the construction of the substructure and superstructure works involved in the Phase IC of the Msheireb project.
The developer also announced that HBK Contracting Company had been awarded the construction of the raft foundations for Phase III of Msheireb Downtown Doha.
