UEMedical starts work on $82mn expansion of Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children
Expansion of hospital will add 100 new beds to the facility and will be completed by 2020
United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical), the Abu Dhabi-based privately-owned healthcare development and investment company, has announced that work has started on the expansion of its Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children project.
In a statement, UEMedical said that the scope of work includes the construction of a new building adjacent to the current one in Abu Dhabi Gate City.
This will add 100 new beds to the facility, thus increasing the total amount of beds available to patients to 225.
UEMedical CEO and Managing Director Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi and Danat Al Emarat Hospital CEO Mariano Gonzalez broke ground on the six-storeyed building in the presence of a number of government officials besides the project constructors, contractors and consultants.
Al Hammadi said: “After conducting a thorough market study, and witnessing Danat Al Emarat’s growing patients’ volumes, the decision was taken to invest $82 million for the new facility adjacent to the existing hospital thus expanding our capacity to almost double and expanding the range of medical services offered.”
The expansion of the Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children has increased UEMedical’s assets to a total of $1.14 billion, the company said.
“As we continue to build an advanced network of healthcare facilities for our nation, this expansion comes in line with the growing interest in women and child healthcare services, which are highly supported by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, GWU, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF),” added Al Shorafa.
The project is scheduled to be completed by 2020, with three contracting and consulting companies overseeing the project – these include Eastern International, Amar Golden Design, and HKS, the American architectural fim, who designed the existing tower of Danat Al Emarat.
Gonzalez said: “The expansion will add three high-tech operating rooms, 16 equipped delivery rooms, and 30 more consultation rooms for the outpatient specialty clinics.”
“It will also include a bigger pharmacy in the new building and a larger neonatal intensive care unit (NICU Level III) increasing our capacity to 40 NICU beds fully equipped to serve our newborns in line with advanced international standards and protocols,” stated Gonzalez.
“The expansion will be accompanied by an increase in the medical and technical staff, attracting over 500 new employees, including 100 physicians in different specialties and 200 nurses who will join us during the final stages of the constructions project by the third and fourth quarter of 2020,” he added.
