Managing company says plan is to expand capacity to 13.5 million passengers annually

The Bahrain Airport Company has announced plans to further expand the country’s international airport in the coming year, it was announced on Thursday.
The project will include expansions to the main passenger terminal building and the construction of a major service centre, a Reuter’s news report said.
“One of the purposes of this project is to sustain the competitive advantage that BIA has in the region, in terms of the time it takes passengers to go through all the checks,” said Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, CEO of Bahrain Airport Company.
The airport currently serves a maximum of nine million passengers per year. It opened in 1994.
Under the current plans for expansion, the airport’s capacity will expand to 13.5 million passengers per year.
