ALEC Engineering and Contracting and Ala Abdulhadi & Khalifa Hawas Consulting Engineering Company (AHCEC) have both been named as finalists for the upcoming Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2019 Awards which will be held in Singapore on 24 October.
The awards are held by leading software and digital twins services for infrastructure firm Bentley Systems which honours the “extraordinary work of Bentley software users advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world”.
Twelve independent jury panels of distinguished industry experts selected the 54 finalists from 571 nominations submitted by more than 440 organisations in more than 60 countries.
ALEC Engineering and Contracting has been recognised for its application of 4D Construction Modeling to construct the structures for the flyover bridge, the world’s largest cantilever, that bisects Ithra Dubai’s One Za’abeel mixed-use development. While announcing ALEC’s nomination, Bentley commended the company for its use of Bentley’s SYNCHRO technology to create 4D models, helping the project team save 40 days in design time and millions of dollars in costs and streamlining communication among stakeholders.
Ala Abdulhadi & Khalifa Hawas Consulting Engineering Company (AHCEC) on behalf of the Madinah Development Authority (MDA), meanwhile, adopted Reality Modeling to create a 3D reality model of the 55-square-kilometer area to be used for planning and designing the necessary infrastructure in Madinah Al Munawara, the second-holiest city for Muslims worldwide.
With the Kingdom wanting to increase the annual number of pilgrims visiting the city from 8 million to 30 million by 2030, the expansion of infrastructure must be balanced with the needs of preserving historical sites. The project was completed 15 months ahead of schedule, noted Bentley.
Winners are due to be announced at an awards ceremony and gala during Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2019 Conference, which will be held October 21 through 24 in Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
The annual conference explores innovations in software technology enabling infrastructure project delivery and asset performance. The theme of this year’s conference is Advancing BIM through Digital Twins, said Bentley.
