Galfar wins $60mn contract for Oman’s Duqm Refinery

Galfar’s works will include mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and piping fabrication works

Galfar Engineering and Contracting (Galfar) has announced that it has won a $59.7 million sub-contract from Italy-based Saipem to work on Oman’s Duqm Refinery.

Galfar’s scope of work will include mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and piping fabrication works for Sub-packages A and C at Duqm refinery package-3, offsite facilities, as announced by the company to the Muscat Securities Market (MSM).

Galfar statement, also added that the scheduled completion date for the works is November 27, 2020 and that it expects ‘reasonable income’ from this contract. Additionally, Galfar has also been awarded other substantial contracts with Oman’s $7 billion Duqm Refinery, previously as well.

In October last year, Galfar was awarded a $50.6 million subcontract by Petrofac-Samsung JV for engineering, procurement and construction works at the Duqm Refinery while the Muscat-listed company also won a $16 million sub-contract related to the phase 1 of the Ras Markaz Crude Oil Park Project in Duqm for pre-site preparation, grading, levelling, earthworks and blasting works.

Duqm Refinery project- developed through a partnership between Oman Oil Co and Kuwait Petroleum International will form the cornerstone of Oman’s next industrial centre- the Duqm Special Economic Zone. Once completed, it will have the capacity to process around 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day while diesel, jet fuel, naphtha and LPG will be its primary products.
