SMEC has appointed Andrew McKune as its new MD for India. McKune plans to drive growth in the country, showing the firm’s commitment to the region. Before being appointed as MD for India, he was the director of Operations for SMEC’s South Asia and Middle East regions.
According to a statement, the firm recently opened offices in Chennai and Guwahati and plans to launch an office in Mumbai soon. The firm’s Global Design Centre is also based in Bangalore and currently services multiple sectors across the globe, the statement said.
“Our project experience in India is diverse, reflecting both the depth of our expertise and our strong local roots, having started our first project in 1975. We’re proud to have been an integral part of India’s growth story, especially after the Indian Government adopted the Economic Liberalization Policy in 1991,” said McKune.
SMEC is currently working on several large infrastructure projects in India including the Rohtang Highway Tunnel; construction supervision on the Green Energy Corridor in Madhya Pradesh; detailed design and engineering services for the 1,000MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project, detailed project report for the Zojilla Tunnel and Approach Roads, design services for the Bundelkhand Water Supply Improvement Project; detailed design services for various packages of the Mumbai and Chennai Metros, and detailed project report for two bridges over the Brahmaputra River.
McKune has been with the firm since 2011 and has worked in various technical and leadership roles across Africa and South Asia. He has over 12 years of experience in civil engineering, with a technical background in transportation projects. SMEC notes that he has been responsible for the management and oversight of various multi-disciplinary projects across Africa and South Asia.
